Agenda
10:00am-10:30am -- Karri updates the group on Planetwork and explains why we're here. This is brainstorming; there will be followups. (Next one currently scheduled for Friday, March 16, 2007.) Eugene Eric Kim gives the ground rules and gets the group started.
10:30am-11:00am -- Exploration of natural networks and ecosystems. What are the characteristics of their relationships - how do their parts create coherent wholes? What catalyzes the networks' to form? What are the conditions that make them thrive? How do they change? Do they have a purpose - is the purpose constant or is it subject to change?
Divide into five breakout groups, with each group assigned a type of network: Forest, Human Body, Food Web, Tide Pools, San Francisco.
11:00am-11:30am -- Report-out. Report-out is mapped.
11:30am-11:40am -- Break.
11:40am-1:00pm -- Exploration of human networks. Share your personal experiences collaborating and learning in a human network. Identify the patterns. We'll start with small groups (1 or 2 people), then combine groups, then finally do a full group-breakout. Report-out is mapped.
- Questions: What function do networks serve that is unique from other forms of human organization? How is a network different than a community? Why do networks form? How do networks federate meaning? Do networks have purpose?
1:00pm-1:45pm -- Lunch.
1:45pm-2:30pm -- Forecasting exercise -- Imagine The Planetwork 13 years in the future (2020). "Yes, and..." Go around in a circle. Each person says about 4 sentences of the story. The next person leaves where the last left off and starts by saying "Yes, and...". Told in the first person (pass the "I"). If we have time, we can go around twice. Identify patterns and new ideas that emerged from the story. - we could even have people do this individually immediately following the story they could quickly write down any new ideas they had and then we could move on to the next session.
2:30pm-3:15pm -- Planetwork Discussion. Break people into three groups around the following questions: In what ways might we diffuse Planetwork principles on a global scale? What does it mean to be a network that embodies Planetwork's principles? What would such a network look like, and what would it do?
3:15pm-4:00pm -- Closing report-out and thoughts. Characterize the Planetwork network. This can happen more extensively during dinner. Mapped.
