Bay Area Learning Circle
From BlueOxen
The Leadership Learning Community's Learning Circle for the Bay Area.
March 29, 2007
1:30-5pm at The California Endowment
1:30-2pm -- Opening Circle. Possible Ice Breakers:
- Tell us your name and one interesting thing about someone else. Only works if everyone knows at least one other person in the room.
- Go directly into breakouts
2-2:30pm -- Internet Primer. Want to establish distributed nature of Internet and its spatial properties. Lead with story about Mom and double-clicking. Also tell story about "breaking the Internet" and "installing Google."
- Do Internet Primer as Pecha Kucha?
- Fitts Law
- Telecentre vs L.A. Times Wikitorial
- Community protects space.
Possible exercises:
- Design a:
- community center
- classroom(s) for 10 / 100 people
- corresponding process for sharing stories about leadership development
- Wiki Bingo
- Email as Hammer: Design scenarios using only email
- scheduling
- sharing files
Lessons and issues:
- You can model online tools, but the ideal is to use the tools themselves. There is almost always a cheap, easy way to do that.
- Tool fatigue
- Treat Online Tools As Space
- physics are slightly different; the notion of proximity is different in the online world
- What if you created a space and no one came? Well, how would you handle this with a physical space?
